Wilkie returns looking for third straight championship

The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of the outfielder Austin Wilkie

After originally coming into the league with the Brantford Red Sox in 2019, Wilkie returns for his 3rd season with the Majors. Last season, the Western Mustang had a career-high with 24 RBIs and 6 home runs while also stealing 4 bases. Since coming to the Majors in 2021, Wilkie has been a staple in center field as he has totalled 563 innings.  Wilkie has been a clutch performer not only at the plate but in the field making some highlight catches.

The Mississauga native was asked about London being a second home for him as he starts his third season “I’m looking forward to defending our back-to-back championships & donning the pinstripes in front of our loyal fans at Labatt once again this summer.”  Wilkie also will be joined by two of his Mustang teammates and was really excited about sharing that experience with them “I’m excited to be playing alongside my Western teammates, Polly & Danny Bats, and can’t wait for them to get a taste of playing at the best yard in the IBL. As always, championship or bust!”

Another core member of the Majors’ back-to-back championships, Roop Chanderdat was asked about the growth of his center fielder “Wilkie has the tools to be one of the top players in the league. He is one of the guys that can step up in big games against top pitching which he has shown over his 3 years with the Majors. Wilkie gives us another strong player with IBL experience.”

The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. In 2021 the London Majors won the IBL Jack & Lynn Dominico Trophy. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world. The league was established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
