Majors sign former Rangers outfield prospect
The London Majors Baseball Club are pleased to announce the signing of Dominican Republic outfielder Starling Joseph.
Joseph, 23, spent five seasons in the Texas Rangers organization from 2015-2020, slugging 22 home runs, 42 doubles, seven triples and stealing 34 bases over his minor league career. The San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, native hit 11 home runs in 59 games during the 2018 season with Spokane, the Rangers Short-Season Class-A affiliate.
Following the 2019 season with Spokane, the 6-foot-3, 209 lb. right-handed-hitting outfielder was assigned the Frisco RoughRiders (AA) and later the Down East Wood Ducks (A), but did not appear in a game due to the 2020 MiLB season being cancelled due to COVID-19.
“Joseph is a talented young player that will help us both offensively and defensively. Covid impacted his career and hopefully, he can jumpstart it again with the Majors. He has shown in the minors that he has some pop in his bat and can also steal bases which makes him a good fit for our ball club”, says Roop Chanderdat, GM & Field Manager.
The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. In 2021 the London Majors won the IBL Jack & Lynn Dominico Trophy. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
