Majors kick off finals with 12-2 victory
The Majors started their second straight finals appearance on Tuesday night against a familiar face in the Toronto Maple Leafs. A big second inning saw the Majors put up 6 runs on their way to a 12-2 win.
Owen Boon made his second postseason start this year, going 7 innings with 13 strikeouts while only facing 27 batters before turning things over to Fernando Fernandez. Fernandez made his first appearance since September 17th vs the same Maple Leafs. Fernandez went 2 innings striking out 4 of his 6 batters.
The Majors’ offence had 2 big innings this game where they score 6 runs in the 2nd inning and 5 runs in the 7th. Keith Kandel started things off with a bases-loaded walk. Newton singled scoring more 2 runs. Taylor Wright and Cleveland Brownlee added 3 more runs in the inning to give the Majors a 6-0 lead. Byron Reichstein had a double in the 7th before Starling Joseph hit a massive home run. Drew Lawrence who came into the game in the 8th inning hit a double to right field scoring the Majors 12th run on their way to the game 1 victory.
Game 2 goes Thursday night in Toronto before returning to London for game 3 at Labatt Park on Friday night. Tickets for Friday night can be purchased online at londonmajors.com.
