The London Majors suffered their second loss of the season by a score of 6-5 to the Welland Jackfish on the road on Saturday afternoon.

It was a back-and-forth battle with London scoring first with two runs in the second inning. That was followed by another pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead.  Welland tied the score at 4-4 with four runs in the bottom of the same inning. The teams traded single runs in the seventh inning to make the score 5-5 until Welland scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning on a bases-loaded walk.

Travis Keys started on the mound for the Majors and kept Jackfish off the scoreboard into the fifth inning when he gave up a three-run home run to Welland’s Steven Moretto. Victor Payano came on in relief at that point and finished off the rest of the game taking the loss. Champ Garner led the London offence with a triple and two singles. Kaiden Cardoso had two singles, and Starling Joseph, Victor Plaz and Ty Mosher had one hit each.

The London Majors remain in second place in the IBL standings behind the Guelph Royals with a 6-2 record. The Majors return home to Labatt Park Sunday afternoon to face the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers in a 1:05 start.
