Majors Fall Against Panthers on Friday Night

With Mother Nature throwing in a curve ball just before first pitch as a large system threatened the start of the game, but someone was watching over the Majors after a few drops the skies cleared and it was the Panthers who would leave the Forks of the Thames with the 6-2 victory.

Wilbur Martinez was coming off his 2nd win of the season. In this contest, the Panamanian would pitch 7 innings while setting a season-high with 8 strikeouts and season low with only 1 walk. It was 1 big inning though that led to the Majors’ loss as Panthers had a 2 run home run in the 3rd. After Martinez, Alex Springer would pitch a scoreless inning striking out 2 before Skylar Jannisse would give up 1 but did strike out 2.

Tommy Reyes Cruz did hit a double in the 1st inning that scored both Austin Wilkie and Starling Joseph giving the Majors the lead. It wasn’t the best outcome though as Wilkie was coming around 3rd base he did come up limp grabbing at his upper hamstring and did leave the game. That would, unfortunately, be all the offence that the Majors could manage vs the 3rd place team.

With only 7 games left, the regular season is coming to an end and only allows for a few opportunities to see the Majors at home. 2 away games this weekend and a Tuesday game vs Guelph the Majors will return on Wednesday for the 2nd half of a home and home series against the Royals before finalizing their home schedule vs the Barrie Baycats next Friday. Tickets for all matchups at home can be purchased online at www.majorsstore.com.

The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. In 2021 the London Majors won the IBL Jack & Lynn Dominico Trophy. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world. The league was established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
