Majors comeback not enough for Baycats

BARRIE – The Barrie Baycats opened defence of their title with an 11-6 win over the visiting London Majors Sunday afternoon.
Barrie trailed 3-0 before scoring four runs in the third inning and seven more in the fourth to pull away.
Jon Waltenbury went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Kyle DeGrace had two hits, two runs and an RBI, Jordan Castaldo drove in a run and scored once, Ryan Spataro singled twice and had an RBI and a run, Kevin Atkinson scored twice, Steve Lewis drove in a pair of runs, and Jeff Cowan went 2-for-5 with a run.
Emilis Guerrero (1-0) picked up the win, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits over seven innings. He struck out seven without issuing a walk.
Brad Bissell pitched the last two innings and recorded his 600th career regular season strikeout.
For London, Byron Reichstein went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Phillip Thrappas had three hits, two runs and an RBI. Cleveland Brownlee and Michael Ambrose each had an RBI, and Jonathan Duforest singled, doubled and scored.
Simon Mercedes (0-1) took the loss, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) on nine hits over 3.1 innings. He walked three and struck out two.
