Majors come up just short of comeback

The Barrie Baycats got some of the strong starting pitching that took them to the Intercounty Baseball League Championship a year ago, and came away with a 6-5 victory over the London Majors at Labatt Memorial Park on Canada Day despite the Majors putting together rallies in both the eighth and ninth innings.

Londonś field manager, Roop Chanderdat, had this to say about tonight's loss. "We came up a little short tonight, but there was no quit in that dugout. The boys gave their fans something to cheer about late in the game. The bats were quiet early, but you have to give credit to Barrie ́s starter Cesar Rosado."

Rosado held London to one run on only two hits while striking out eight in his six innings on the mound for Barrie on his way to earning his third win in the 2025 season. Carlos Sano earned his third save of the season. Sano gave up two runs during London's ninth inning rally, but he struck out Ty Mosher with the potential tying and winning runs on base to seal the 6-5 Barrie win.

London starter Travis Keys suffered his first loss of the season, allowing four runs on 10 hits over 6 1/3 innings. Ryan Beitel, Skylar Janisse, and Nate Bennett followed in relief of Keys. After managing just two hits off starter Cesar Rosado, the Majors finished the game with a total of nine base hits.

Tucker Zdunich had two singles and one RBI while scoring twice. Ken Sugi had a single and a double, and two RBI, and Francisco Fajardo had an RBI double, and Champ Garner had a double. Toby Simmons contributed a single and two stolen bases, giving the lead-off hitter 10 stolen bases this season. Byron Reichstein had a single and a walk. Kyle Maves had one single to round out the London offence.

The London Majors have another busy weekend ahead. They will kick off the weekend on Friday, July 4th, when they host the Guelph Royals at Labatt Memorial Park before heading on the road on Saturday to Barrie and Sunday afternoon to Hamilton.
