Majors battle tough vs Royals but fall short

The London Majors unfortunately came up short of their 32nd win of the season as they lost a close battle to the Guelph Royals Wednesday night at Hastings Stadium by a score of 6-4. The game was tied at four runs a piece until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Victor Mascai launched a home run to right field, bringing in Franklin Torres with the winning run. 

Guelph starting pitcher Edgar Garcia pitched five strong innings, keeping London off the scoreboard, allowing one hit and striking out five. Gleyvin Pineda picked up the win, and Kevin Escorcia earned his tenth save of the season in relief of Garcia. 

The London attack amounted to four runs on seven singles. Jordan Lewis led the way with three singles and one run scored. Maikol Escotto had two singles, two RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases. Trent Linehan had a sacrifice fly that drove in Jarrett Burney in the seventh inning while Eduardo De Oleo chipped in with an RBI single. Jarrett Burney had one single. 

Despite tonight's loss, the London Majors remain atop the CBL standings with three games left in the season. Next action for the Majors will be a trip east to Kitchener to face the Panthers on Thursday night before returning to Labatt Memorial Park on Friday night when the Brantford Red Sox come to London.
