Majors battle for Mother’s Day Victory

The London Majors opened the Intercounty Baseball Leagues 107th season by fighting through all nine innings to come away with a 6-5 win over the Brantford Red Sox on Motherś Day afternoon at Arnold Anderson Stadium in Brantford.


The Majors got off to a quick 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings, The first inning started with newcomer Toby Simmons lining a single into right field, moving to second on a fielderś choice before coming home to score along with Eduardo De Oleo on a Kariden Cardoso RBI double.


London manager Roop Chanderdat had this to say about his new leadoff hitter Toby Simmons, ¨Simmons gave us a spark in the lead off spot getting three hits and a stolen base.”


Travis Keys, Victor Payano and Jose Arias pitched three innings each for the Majors. With three runs in the second and two more in the seventh the Red Sox led 5-4 going into the eighth inning, Ty Mosher singled home Champ Garner in the top of the eighth to knot the score at 5-5. Kaiden Cardoso tripled and scored on Charlie Bowman´s game winning RBI single in the top of the ninth to make the score 6-5 London.


The Majors offence was led by Toby Simmons who had three hits, two runs scored, an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. Kaiden Cardoso also contributed three hits, along with one run scored

and an RBI.


Francisco Fajardo, Eduardo De Oleo, Cleveland Brownlee, Charlie Bowman, Champ Garner, and Ty Mosher had one hit each to bring the London Majors hit total to 12 off four Red Sox pitchers. Aiden Atmitage took the loss for Brantford.


Manager Chanderdat, provided us with his overall view of todayś game,¨It’s early and everyone contributed today. Our young guys did a good job for us. Victor Payano was very good in picking up the win and Jose Arias looked good in his first game of the season¨


The London Majors will open their home schedule when the Guelph Royals visit Labatt Park on Friday May 16th for a 7:35 first pitch.
