Majors add Lund to pitching staff

The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of pitcher Jaryd Lund, who has seen action with the team as a Junior AP player over each of the last three seasons – but will now join the team on a full-time basis and take on a bigger role.

Lund, who is completing his fifth and final season at Salem University, a Division II program, is a local product who spent his junior playing days with the St. Thomas Tomcats, serving as the ace of the team each of the last two seasons.

As a call-up player, he first saw time with the Majors during the team’s 2021 championship-winning season. That year, he made nine appearances (one start) and earned two saves. He made only four appearances in 2022, but last summer he threw 30 2/3 innings over 11 outings.

The left-hander went 4-2 with a 5.28 ERA, 29 strikeouts and two saves in 2023. Perhaps his best outing was the first of three starts he made on the year, holding the Brantford Red Sox scoreless over six innings in a May 28 win.

“I’m looking forward to having Jaryd as a full-time player with us now that he’s graduated from junior baseball,” said Roop Chanderdat, the Majors’ GM and field manager. “He’s a competitor and a great addition to our pitching staff. Jaryd is the ultimate teammate. He’s very supportive of all the players, and he does whatever is needed to help the team.”

At Salem University, the 22-year-old Lund has served as a starting pitcher, and he’s been the team’s ace the last two seasons (and the current one). In 2022, he struck out 87 batters in 69 innings over 13 starts. Last year, he posted a strong 3.17 ERA while going 4-2 with a pair of complete games.

“I’m excited to be with London full-time this season and get to experience Labatt Park and our great fanbase all summer,” said Lund. “I’m excited to be playing for Roop again, as he’s always motivated me to perform at my full potential and help the team win baseball games.”
