Majors add former Pirates Prospect

The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Wilbur Martinez.

Signed as a 17-year-old international free agent by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Martinez reported to the Dominican Summer League team where the youngster pitched in 21 innings. In his 3 years in the Pirates organization, the Panama native had a K/9 rating of 7.3 with his best season coming last year with a 9.9 rating.

The now 21-year-old also kept the opponent’s batting average down over the last 3 seasons as he worked them to a batting average of .162/.208/.158 while his strikeouts rose over those 3 seasons as well.

The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. In 2021 the London Majors won the IBL Jack & Lynn Dominico Trophy. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world. The league was established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
