The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of Canadian left-handed pitcher Fernando Fernandez.

Fernandez, 27, returns to the IBL after he played for the Guelph Royals in 2019, going 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA over three starts, with 18 strikeouts and three walks over 18 innings of work. The Mercier, Quebec native, also comes to the Majors with some Independent Professional experience, as he pitched for the Trois-Rivieres Aigles of the Can-Am League (now the Frontier League) for parts of two seasons (2018-2019), where he appeared in 11 games, pitching in 16.1 innings, striking out 14 and walking nine.

The 6-foot-1, 200 lb. southpaw also had a successful college career, pitching for both the University of New Mexico (2016) and St. Mary's (2018). At St. Mary’s in 2018, the former Philadelphia Phillies 2012 draft choice went 8-5 with a 2.65 ERA over 15 appearances (14 starts), striking out 91 batters, and walking just 37 in 95 innings, with opponents batting .233 – as he was named to the NCBWA All-Region Second Team and to the All-Heartland Conference First Team.

When asked about the new southpaw Roop Chanderdat was very excited about the quality arm “Fernandez will give us another quality arm to add to our pitching staff.  He is a lefty that has had success at every stop in his career”

The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. In 2021 the London Majors won the IBL Jack & Lynn Dominico Trophy. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
