London Majors Sign Former Top Prospect Maikol Escotto
The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of infielder Maikol Escotto for the upcoming 2026 CBL season.
Escotto, 23, brings six seasons of affiliated baseball experience to London, having developed within the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates systems. Originally signed as an international free agent by the Yankees on July 2, 2018, Escotto was acquired by the Pirates on January 24, 2021, as part of the trade that sent Jameson Taillon to New York.
A former Top 30 prospect in the Pirates organization, Escotto was ranked as high as 18th before the 2022 season. The right-handed hitting shortstop first turned heads in 2019 when he earned DSL All-Star honours at just 17 years old, batting .315 with eight home runs, 11 doubles, and four triples.
Most recently, Escotto split the 2025 campaign between the Greensboro Grasshoppers (High-A) and the Altoona Curve (Double-A). In 38 games with Greensboro, he hit .319 with six home runs and 20 RBI, earning a mid-season promotion to Altoona. Over 438 career Minor League games, Escotto has compiled a .231 batting average with 47 home runs, 195 RBI, and 85 stolen bases, showcasing a dynamic blend of power and speed.
With the addition of Escotto, the Majors have released shortstop Kevin Vicuna, who is unable to join the club due to medical reasons.
Field Manager Roop Chanderdat addressed the roster change:
"It’s very unfortunate that Kevin Vicuna will be unable to join us due to medical reasons, but with that, we’re excited to welcome Maikol to our club. Escotto has a lot of talent and will shore up our middle infield defensively. He also adds power and speed to our lineup. At 23 years old, he has the potential to really grow with our organization and learn from our veteran players.”
Escotto is expected to play a key role in the Majors’ infield this season as the club prepares for its inaugural CBL campaign.
