Late-Inning Runs, Boon’s Dominance Give Majors Victory

The Majors got on the board first in the first inning with a Byron Reichstein single to score Carlos Arteaga, to kick off the ballgame against Chris Boatto and the Jackfish. Then in the bottom half, Welland put two on the board quickly with a home run surrendered by Owen Boon to Dane Tofteland. After that, the starting pitchers took over. No more runs were scored until the 7th inning, when Byron Reichstein drove home a run to tie it, then Cleveland Brownlee hit a moonshot to give the Majors the lead. Evan Britt plated his third run in two days in the eighth inning to put London up 4-2. Braeden Ferrington took over in the bottom of the inning and allowed one run on a strikeout/wild pitch.

In his ninth and final regular season start of the year, Owen Boon was once again a commanding presence on the mound. Despite the early Welland score on the Tofteland home run, Boon settled right in and never looked back. He had two three-up-three-down innings. He ran into a little bit of trouble in the fifth and sixth innings, but both times he was able to get out of it. He fanned eleven in his league-leading eighth win of the year. He also has 66 strikeouts to lead the league.

For Welland, Chris Boatto started the game and went six innings, giving up two runs. Jake Harford threw three innings in relief. For the Majors, Braeden Ferrington relieved Owen Boon, recording a two inning save, his fourth of the year. Ferrington’s season ERA sits at 0.89.

The Majors will finish up the regular season on the road tomorrow afternoon, in Kitchener, against the Panthers.
