De Oleo and company power their way to victory over Panthers
Looking to come out of the weekend winning 2 of 3 and another trip down to Kitchener after falling 7 days prior. In this contest, both pitching and the bats came alive as the Majors took down the Panthers 18-6 at Jack Couch Park.
After pitching on Tuesday night vs the Cardinals in his IBL debut, Wilbur Martinez was on the mound and showed Majors fans why he was signed as a 17-year-old by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Going 6 innings in a very hitter-friendly ballpark while only allowing 4 runs, and only 1 being a home run was a great bounce back for the soon to be 21 year old (Aug 3rd). Skylar Jannise who has been a big piece out of the Majors bullpen this year pitched the final 3 innings, scattered 2 runs while striking out 3 picking up the save.
On Friday and Saturday, the Majors were able to manufacture runs against two tough opponents and their top pitchers but on Sunday the power was on display as the lineup had 8 home runs including 4 by Eduardo De Oleo who seems to be returning to his true self. Jordan Schulefand also picked up his first IBL home run on the afternoon. Not to be outmatched, Starling Joseph notched a pair while Cleveland Brownlee had mashed a long ball himself. 17 of the Majors 18 runs were earned in this contest proving that this team can hit. Edwardo De Oleo now finds himself 2nd in the league in home runs, 1 behind Hamilton’s Tyler Duncan.
De Oleo can tie Duncan as he and the rest of the team have 4 games this week starting with a matchup vs Guelph on Tuesday. Tickets to all majors home games can be purchased on our team website www.majorsstore.com
The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. In 2021 the London Majors won the IBL Jack & Lynn Dominico Trophy. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world. The league was established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
