Majors long ball leads to victory

The London Majors bounced back from last weekend when they lost three straight games by defeating the Brantford Red Sox 5-2. That is two wins in a row for London after their Friday night win over Guelph. They will have an opportunity to extend their winning streak to three games Sunday afternoon when they face the Hamilton Cardinals at Bernie Arbour Stadium.

London opened the scoring in the second inning when with two out Victor Plaz reached on an error  and came home on a single by Champ Garner.

Three more runs came in the bottom of the third inning which started with a single by Kaiden Cardoso and a walk to Victor Payano. Byron Reichstein stepped up next and drove the second pitch of his at bat just inside the right-field foul pole for his fifth home run of the season making the score 4-0 London.

The Majors added a run in the sixth inning when Gibson Krzeminski´s double to deep centrefield drove home Brad Verhoeven who had reached base on a walk.

London´s five runs came on only six hits, but Brantford pitching also gave up eight walks. Kaiden Cardoso improved his batting average to .370 with abtwo-for-three night. His Batting

Average is third best in the IBL behind a pair of Chatham-Kent Barnstormers, Spencer Marcus and Seth Strong.

London starting pitcher Travis Keys who is headed to the IBL All Star game next Saturday at Welland Stadium picked up his fifth win of the 2024 season. Keys got through his five innings of work allowing six hits and onlybone unearned run. Jonathan Henry followed Keys with three innings of relief and Victor Payano pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.
