The Chatham–Kent Barnstormers used a big nine-run seventh inning to overcome what looked to be a comfortable London Majors lead through six innings and defeated London by a 10-6 score Tuesday night at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham. With tonight's loss, the Majors slipped into third place in the Intercounty Baseball League standings with a record of 21-13. They are a half-game behind the second-place Barrie Baycats, who were idle on Tuesday night.
After Chatham-Kent took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a home run from Owen Constanteneau, the Majors scored three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and a single run in the top of the seventh inning to hold what looked like a dominant 6-1 lead. A big offensive blow for London was a three RBI round-tripper by Toby Simmons in the top of the fifth inning that scored Byrion Reichstein and Champ Garner. All nine players in the London batting order notched at least one hit. Francisco Fajardo, in the lead-off spot, had four hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Champ Garner had two hits. Kyle Maves and Eduardo De Oleo both had doubles. To round out the 13-hit Majors attack, Byron Reichstein, Tucker Zdunich, Josh Niles, and Ken Sugi all had one single.
Another three-game weekend kicks off on Friday night at Labatt Memorial Park when the Toronto Maple Leafs come to town.
