The London Majors were unable to get the offence rolling against the Welland Jackfish on Saturday evening, falling for the second time this season 3-0.

It was a pitchers' duel from start to finish, as both Travis Keys and Euclides Leyer were exceptional on the mound. The Majors had plenty of opportunities to cash in multiple runners but couldn’t get past Euclides Leyer in his first home start of the season, as he went seven innings while giving up eight hits and striking out four.

The Jackfish also had their own problems trying to figure out Travis Keys, as the London native was dealing through six and a third innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out five. Dustin Davidson and Kade Douglas followed Keys in relief.

Jonah Weisner and Daiki Abe were responsible for the three Jackfish runs, as Jonah Weisner hit a sacrifice fly in the third, followed by an RBI groundout by Daiki Abe in the seventh. Jonah Weisner came up again with a line drive RBI double to right field to give the Jackfish a 3-0 lead at the end of the seventh inning.

That was all the offence the Jackfish needed, as their bullpen shut things down from there. The Majors had eleven hits, all of them singles, and were unable to capitalize on some late-inning rallies, stranding five baserunners in the top of the eighth and ninth while totalling eleven runners total in the game.

The Majors are now 5-2 on the season as they’ll head back to Labatt Memorial Park to play their fourth game in four days on Sunday, May 31st, against the Guelph Royals.
