Majors add former Saskatoon Berries Relief Pitcher
The London Majors are proud to announce the signing of left-handed reliever Zac Laird for the upcoming season. Laird, 22, joins the Majors following a dominant summer with the Saskatoon Berries of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL), where he emerged as one of the league’s most electric bullpen arms.
Laird posted an impressive 4-0 record with a 2.14 ERA over 21 innings and 19 appearances, helping guide the Berries to a league-best 46-9 record. His ability to miss bats set him apart from the rest of the WCBL, leading all relief pitchers with a 16.2 strikeouts per nine innings mark.
The Langley, B.C., native arrives in London after completing a four-year NCAA career split between Niagara University and Indiana State University. Across his collegiate tenure, the 5-foot-7, 150-pound southpaw put up a 3-4 record, a 12.2 K/9, and held opponents to just 8.5 hits per nine.
Known for his explosive arsenal, Laird features a power fastball that sits between 93–95 mph, paired with a wipeout breaking ball and a deceptive slingshot delivery that consistently disrupts hitters’ timing.
"Zac brings exactly the kind of power and competitiveness we’re looking for on the mound,” said London Majors field manager Roop Chanderdat. “He’s a young lefty with big stuff — the fastball has real life at 93–95, and his breaking ball is a true swing-and-miss pitch. His slingshot delivery makes him even tougher to face. We believe he can be a major weapon for us late in games.”
