Majors sign former Cubs prospect

The London Majors are proud to announce the signing of former Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins right-handed pitching prospect Jose Arias.

Arias, born in 1991, hails from Santiago, Dominican Republic, while standing at 6’6 and coming in at 235 lbs. A former pro, Jose spent time in the minor leagues from 2010–2015 split between the Cubs and Marlins organizations. Arias was named a Midwest League Class-A All-Star in 2014, posting a 1.77 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 40.2 innings before being traded to the Marlins along with RHP Tyler Bremer in exchange for former MLB pitcher Jacob Turner.

In a total of six seasons in the minor leagues, Arias posted a 3.32 ERA in 241.1 innings, recording a staggering 9.1 K/9 and an impressive 3.1 BB/9 rate, showing the ability to command the ball, while striking out batters at a high rate. He’s also been known at keeping the ball in the ballpark remarkably well, as he holds a career 0.4 HR/9 stat.

When talking to the Santiago native, Arias had this to say about joining the defending champs “I am thrilled to join the London Majors Baseball Team. This is a good opportunity for me to continue my pitching career. I am looking forward to playing at Labatt Park in front of the London fans.

Another addition to the team's skill, Roop Chanderdat was asked about the newest addition to the Majors pitching staff “Jose Arias is a very good addition to our pitching staff.  He has had very good success early in his career and has continued to work hard to stay ready for his next opportunity.”

The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. In 2021 the London Majors won the IBL Jack & Lynn Dominico Trophy. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
