Majors open busy stretch with win over Leafs

On the hottest nights of the season, the Majors welcomed the Toronto Maple Leafs into the friendly confines of Labatt Park on Friday night to open a jam-packed 5 days for the Majors with 4 games in that stretch. The Majors opened the stretch with a 7-2 victory.

Fernando Fernandez would get his second start of the season going 5 innings for the second straight start. Fernandez would get 6 strikeouts in the outing while allowing no runs. Anderson Acevedo would pitch an inning with a strikeout as well. Pedro De Los Santos pitched 2 innings giving up 1 earned run and striking out 2. Braeden Ferrington would come in for the save, his 2nd of the season.

Offensively the Majors were shut down till the 3rd inning where they would bring 4 runs across the plate, without hitting a home run. After a hot July, Jakob Newton would line a double to left field scoring Keith Kandel. An error by the shortstop on a broken bat by Starling Joseph would bring Newton while Joseph and Mullen would advance a base. A second error in the inning would lead the Majors to their 4th run of the inning scoring Robert Mullen and Starling Joseph. Taylor Wright would continue his great return after spending a month in Ottawa in the Frontier league hitting a deep double, scoring Kandel. Keith would get into the RBI fun as a single would score 2 runs in the 8th inning.
