Game Summary:

Majors rout Leafs in opener

Will Richards hit a pair of home runs and had five RBI as the London Majors opened the Intercounty Baseball League playoffs by mauling the Toronto Maple Leafs 11-1 in one of four games played in the Intercounty Baseball League on Sunday.

London scored four first inning runs, with three coming on Richards’ homer, and were never threatened from there as Craig Bate dominated the Leafs on the mound all afternoon.

Bate tossed a complete game five-hitter, striking out four and walking two, and the Majors supported him with a 13-hit attack to make Game  1 a blowout. Game 2 in the series is Tuesday night in London, with Game 3 back at Christie Pits Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Richards had four hits and scored four runs, narrowly missing a third home run when he doubled off the left field fence in the eighth after adding a two-run homer to his first inning heroics in the sixth. Perry Silverman drove in a pair of runs for the winners, while Jordan Dreiling added two hits and an RBI.

Gamin Teague was the lone bright spot for the Leafs, with three of Toronto’s five hits in the game. His solo homer in the eighth was really Bate’s only mistake, and Teague also added a single and double.

Starter Drew Taylor allowed six runs on six hits over six innings, striking out three and walking two, to take the loss.

Game Summary:

Leafs even up series with win over Majors

Marek Deska pitched a complete game eight-hitter as the Toronto Maple Leafs  downed the London Majors 6-2 in the lone Intercounty Baseball League playoff game played on Tuesday night.

Toronto’s win ties the best-of-seven series 1-1. Game 3 in the series is tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Christie Pits, with Game 4 back in London on Friday night.

The game took nearly four hours to complete and had to be stopped twice on account of lightning, but the Leafs survived the bad weather to pound out 15 hits to tie the series after being blown out 11-1 in the series opener.

Deska struck out four and walked six but managed to keep the Majors hitters off balance for most of the game while Toronto’s veteran bats went to work. Damon Topolie had a three-run double in the third inning for the Leafs and that turned out to be the difference.

Jeremy Walker delivered four hits and drove in a run, and Danny Gibbons, had three hits for the Leafs.

Mike Mitro started and took the loss for London. Mitro went 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs – just one earned – on 10 hits with three strikeouts and five walks.

Jordan Dreiling and Vince Burke both had a hit and an RBI for the Majors.

Game Summary:

In Toronto, the Maple Leafs scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back, routing the Majors 12-1 to take a 2-1 lead in their opening round, best-of-seven series.

Traffic problems coming into Toronto caused the Majors to arrive late and resulted in a 27 minute delay in the game, originally scheduled for 7:30. But the Leafs didn’t delay in jumping all over London starter Aaron Boag for six first inning runs, with Kyle Degrace and Damon Topolie both drilling two run homers to highlight the quick start.

The Leafs added four more runs in the fourth and another two in the sixth off reliever Hirali Garcia, with Jeremy Walker smashing a three-run homer and Kyle Morton delivering a two-run shot to deep centre field as nine of Toronto’s runs came via the long ball.

Jason Pilkington was outstanding on the mound for the Leafs, tossing eight shutout innings and allowing four hits, striking out nine and walking three.          Reliever Mark Sikorski allowed an RBI single to Vince Burke in the ninth to account for the Majors lone run. Alan Cattrysse had two of London’s five hits.

Boag took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits over two innings, striking out one and walking two.

Degrace sparked the Leafs attack with four hits, while Gamin Teague added three hits and scored a pair of runs. Dan Gibbons, Walker and Topolie all added two hits for Toronto.

Game Summary:

Majors even series with win over Leafs

The London Majors took a 7-0 lead and then hung on to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-5 in the lone game in the Intercounty Baseball League playoffs on Friday night in London.

London’s win ties the best-of-seven series at 2-2. Game 5 in the series has been moved ahead to a 7 p.m. start tonight at Christie Pits, instead of its original 2 p.m. starting time.

The Majors rapped out 11 hits to take a big lead, scoring four runs in the seventh to go ahead 7-0. They would need all of those runs however as the Leafs scored five times in the eighth to make a game of it.

London starter Craig Bate went seven innings for the win, allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Adam Echlin got the last five outs to escape the eighth and ninth innings and got the save.

Kyle Piwowarczyk had three hits, Chris Chambers had two hits and two RBI and Will Richards added two hits and an RBI for the Majors.

Drew Taylor took the loss for the Leafs, allowing three runs on six hits over four innings, striking out two and walking three. Raul Borjas had two hits and both he and Jeremy Walker had two-run doubles in the eighth.

Game Summary:

Leafs one win away from second round after win over Majors

Darryl Craig pitched a complete game seven-hitter as the Toronto Maple Leafs downed the London Majors 3-1 in the lone Intercounty Baseball League game played Sunday at Christie Pits.

Rainy weather finally broke for a few hours and the teams took advantage by playing a tight pitcher’s duel that was over in 2 hours and 2 minutes, with the win giving the Leafs a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Game 6 in the series is Monday night in London and should a seventh game be required, it’ll be played Tuesday in Toronto.

Craig allowed just a solo homer to Will Richards to lead off the ninth but that was it, striking out six and walking none in an impressive complete game performance to win a pitching duel with London ace Pierre Miville-Deschenes.

Miville-Deschenes was also sharp, allowing three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and four walks in 7 1/3 innings. Josh Palmer got the last two outs of the game for the Majors.

Jeremy Walker drove in the game’s first run in the first inning with a single and that was all the offence until the bottom of the eighth, when the Leafs hit for two more runs on an RBI double by Brian Ivan and a sacrifice fly by Damon Topolie.

Dan Gibbons had three singles for the Leafs, who also managed just seven hits in the game.
