SERIES "B" - Brantford Red Sox (2) 13, London Majors (7) 0

It was all about pitching in Arnold Anderson Stadium at Brantford this evening (Wednesday) as the Brantford Red Sox romped to a 13-0 victory over the London Majors.  This was the third consecutive game of the 2007 playoffs that has resulted in a shutout victory for the home team.

Winning pitcher Brad Hogeterp worked through seven innings allowing five hits and four walks.  He struckout six batters.  Junior Hughie Sullivan pitched the final two innings, and had two strikeouts.  Tom Van Kasteren took the loss for London working four innings while allowing eight hits, eight earned runs, two walks and notching two strikeouts. Max Escrogin pitched the fifth and was tagged for four hits and four earned runs, and Anthony Carlo finished the game.

Hyung Cho scored the game-winning run in the first inning as he got on base because of a fielder’s choice and scored on a single by McCurdy.

Josh McCurdy led Brantford with three singles, a double and four RBIs.  Adam Vella added two singles, a home run, and three RBIs with Raul Borjas getting two singles and a RBI.  Vince Burke doubled for London, and a Jay Wiles was walked three times.

GAME #2 - Friday July 27th @ London 7:30 p.m.

Game Summary:

SERIES "B" - Brantford Red Sox (2) 11, London Majors (7) 1

Brantford Red Sox took a 2-1 lead on the London Majors before blowing the game open as they scored nine times over the course of the fourth and fifth innings to defeat the London Majors 11-1 and take a 2-0 games lead in the IBL best of seven quarterfinal series here in Labatt Memorial Park tonight (Friday).

Winning pitcher was Mike Meyers went six innings allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out one batter and walking two others.  Kirk Martin took the loss for London working four and two thirds innings while giving up nine earned runs on 10 hits.  He had one strikeout and one walk.

Al Stephens led Brantford in hitting with three including two home runs, and three RBIs.  For the Majors, Kyle Piwowarczyk hit a solo home run.

GAME #3 - Saturday July 28th @ Brantford  2:00 p.m.

Game Summary:

Brantford Red Sox 6, London Majors 4

 In Brantford, Tyler Burnell’s single in the fifth inning scored Al Stephens with the winning run as the Red Sox defeated the London Majors 6-4 Saturday night to take a commanding three games to none lead in their quarter-final series.

 Stephens had three hits for Brantford as did Lee Delfino. Stephens also added two RBI’s while Hyung Cho had a solo home run.

 Kevin Virtue led London with three hits and an RBI while Ryan Gauthier and Chuck Roberts each added two hits.

 Winning pitcher Brett Gray went six and one-third innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out three. Mark Ferguson came on in relief followed by Marc-Andre Major who pitched the ninth for the save.

 Losing pitcher was Josh Palmer who went eight innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits and three walks. He had seven strikeouts.

GAME #4 - Sunday July 29th @ London 1:00 p.m.

Game Summary:

Brantford Red Sox (2) 6, London Majors (7) 5 (15 innings)

Josh McCurdy with a game-winning RBI single in the 15th inning finished off the London /Majors season as the Brantford Red Sox posted a 6-5 victory and captured their best of seven IBL quarterfinal series in four games here today (Sunday) in Labatt Memorial Park.

Reliever Aaron Boag of the Red Sox threw no hit ball for two and one third innings from the 13th inning onward while walking three batters and striking out another.  Stefan Strecker started and was in turn relieved by John Ogiltree and Marc Andre Major before Boag took to the mound.

For the Majors, Tom VanKasteren, who pitched the final three and one third innings and was charged with the loss.  He allowed one earned run on five hits, two walks and a strikeout.  Mike Mitro started and went four and two-thirds innings and gave up four runs was relieved by Max Escrogin.  He went another seven innings and gave up another Brantford run before VanKasteren took over.

Raul Borjas led the Red Sox with five hits including a double and two RBIs.  Karl Amonite had three hits including a two-run home run in first inning for the Majors.
