Matt McCarney has signed a pro contract with the New York Mets organization. Matt played outfield for the Majors this past season. McCarney has tremendous talent and is great kid off the field.
This season with the Majors Matt had to overcome some injuries but was still an assest to the club. Matt batted 0.203 with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 9 rbi and 4 stolen bases in the regular season.
Two years agon Matt was drafted in the 23rd round of the MLB draft by Tampa Bay D-Rays. McCarney is 19 years, 6'3", 195 lbs., throws right, bats right and plays the outfield.
Priro to playing for the Majors Matt played for Team Ontario in the Canada Cup in Medicine Hat in 2005 and won the gold medal. He was also selected to play for Team Canada National Junior team the same year. McCarney won the A.C.T Award for Baseball player of the year in 2005.
His club team for the past 5 years has been the Ottawa Nepean Canadians .
