IBL Wins New Era All-Star Challenge

Quebec Elite All-Stars 17 IBL All-Stars 12

In Thetford Mines Sunday afternoon, the Intercounty Baseball League All-Stars won the New Era All-Star Challenge Series by a 25-24 score despite losing game 4 of the series 17-12 against the Senior Elite Baseball League (LBSEQ) All-Stars from Quebec.

The IBL Stars were led by Rob Gillis' (Toronto Maple Leafs) grand-slam home run in the ninth inning. The home run made the score 17-12 and gave the IBL Stars a one-run edge in the four-game, total run series. The teams split the four game series which started August 21-22 in Ottawa.

Cleveland Brownlee (London Majors) added two RBI’s while Mike Gottschalk (Hamilton Thunderbirds) contributed a solo home run in today’s game.

Losing pitcher was Luis Castillo of the Mississauga Twins. He went 2 2/3 innings before being relieved by Mike Goemans (Guelph Royals) who finished up, pitching the final 6 1/3 innings.

In a home run derby between the two leagues, the LBSEQ’s Eddie Lantigua took the crown over teammate Martin Johnson and the IBL duo of Brownlee and Sean Reilly (Guelph Royals)
