IBL Announces 2010 Award Winners and All-Star Teams

The Intercounty Baseball League today announced its 2010 Most Valuable Player Award and Rookie of the Year Award winners, along with the 2010 All-Star Teams.
Ryan Spataro of the Barrie Baycats was named the winner of the IBL Most Valuable Player Award, taking home the John Bell Memorial Trophy.
Spataro received a total of 29 votes to edge out Sean Reilly of the Guelph Royals (22 votes) and Lee Delfino of the Brantford Red Sox (15 votes).
Spataro, who also captured MVP honours in 2005, enjoyed a banner season for the Baycats. The veteran outfielder batted .384, finishing in a tie for the league lead with Frankie Hare of the Guelph Royals, with both players going 38-for-99. In 24 games, the 27-year-old Barrie native also finished second in the league in on-base percentage (.474) and ninth in slugging percentage (.505).
Spataro also stole 10 bases in 11 attempts, and added one homer and

16 RBI along with seven doubles, making him a huge threat at the top of the Barrie lineup game in and game out.
Andy St. Gelais of the London Majors was named the winner of the IBL

Rookie of the Year Award, taking home the Brian Kerr Memorial Trophy for his efforts.
The Majors pitcher received 31 votes to edge out Cody Mombourquette

of the Ottawa Fat Cats (24 votes) and Brian Ivan of the Toronto Maple Leafs (12 votes) in the balloting.
St. Gelais (7-3) led the IBL in wins, was third in strikeouts (58) and second in ERA (2.30) while anchoring the Majors pitching staff.
The Pintendre, Quebec native workhorse pitched 70 1/3 innings in 12 games, 10 of them starts. The 22-year-old had one shutout and added two saves.
For the 2010 All-Star Teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs led all teams with six selections while the Barrie Baycats had five members named.
The Brantford Red Sox, the London Majors and the Guelph Royals each had three members named to the teams, with the Kitchener Panthers and Mississauga Twins both having two players selected to the 24-man roster.
There are 10 repeat All-Stars from last season - Spataro, Reilly, Spoljaric and Cho who all repeat on the first team while Latour, Borjas and Walker are all second team repeaters. Gibbons (2nd team), Castaldo (1st team) and Lundberg (2nd team) are also repeat winners but switched teams this year.

- players received five points for a first selection on the ballot and three for a second. Teams could not vote for their own players.
