INTERCOUNTY BASEBALL LEAGUE NAMES EXECUTIVES OF THE
YEAR
The Intercounty Baseball League is delighted to announce that London Majors owners Scott Dart and Roop Chanderdat have been named the IBL Executives of the Year for 2008. The annual award is presented by the IBL at its Annual General Meeting and is voted on by executive members of all nine IBL franchises. London enjoyed one of its best seasons on the field in decades in 2008, winning the IBL pennant with a 27-9 record. It was the first time a London team had finished in first place since the Majors claimed the then West Division title in 1988. The Majors followed that up with an exciting post-season run, advancing to the IBL Finals against the Brantford Red Sox. Brantford won the title in a thrilling seven game series, capturing the deciding game at Labatt Park in London before more than 4,000 fans, one of the largest crowds in IBL history. Off the field the Majors continued to improve their presence in London while attracting solid crowds to historic Labatt Park, becoming a model franchise for the league both off and on the field. Dart serves as the club’s President and Chanderdat (a former player in the league) is the General Manager and Field Manager of the club. The duo also operates the Lambton Shore Predators Junior B Hockey Club. “Scott and Roop are perfect examples of the kind of people that are needed to operate a sports franchise,” IBL Commissioner Jim Rooney said in announcing the winners. “The London Majors were a class act off and on the field all season. “They are forward thinking people who see the potential for the growth of this league not just in London , but throughout the province. Given their fantastic play on the field as a team this season, and their continuing growth as a business model, it was really an easy choice for the league operators to give them the award this year.” The IBL will open its 91st season in early May, 2009. It is one of the longest running amateur leagues in Ontario, beginning operations in 1919.
